Marigolds growing in the flower farm fields.

Marigold

Scientific Name: Tagetes erecta

Why We Love It

Marigolds are often thought of as a garden staple, but not as much in cut flower arranging – we happen to love them everywhere!! They add a vibrant splash of color and have a unique bright scent that combined just screams summer (even though they grow into the fall).

Marigolds come in a wide variety of oranges, yellows, burgundy, gold, and cream, and can vary in height from 6″ to 4′ so it’s important to research your varieties before planting.  Shorter varieties are great in gardens, and taller are great for cutting for arrangements!

They are easy to start from seed, and help out in the garden with keeping away pests.  Although deer and rabbits don’t like to eat them, they are edible for us humans and make a great garnish!
